Their writings influenced Abraham Abulafia of the Castilian school of Kabbalah, whose meditation techniques included contemplating different names of God. The kabbalist Moses Cordovero of Safed, Israel, in 1542 compiled a handbook called Pardes Rimonim (Garden of the Pomegranates), which includes many sections that expound on and elaborate previous systems of gematria. The body of works that make up the Zohar indeed were instrumental in shaping Kabbalah, and included within that, Gematria. W.E.B. DuBois once stated, “When you have mastered numbers, you will in fact no longer be reading numbers, any more than you read words when reading books. Second, notice that the word “et” right in the center of this verse has 2 letters which is the first prime number and interestingly it is a special prime number as it is the only even prime number. There are 3 words on either side of this center word which is the next prime number. Notice next that each word on either side of the center word “et”, the words Elohim and Hashamayim each have 5 letters and each word on either side of these words “bara” and “vet” have 3 letters. Of course there are many other important numbers and numerical associations with words which can reveal hidden information. Using gematria properly (and by “properly” I do not mean an online English gematria calculator) can help you read the signs from the Divine. For example, the Hebrew words for “G-d”, “good”, and “first” all add up to 17. Another famous example is evident during The Jewish New Year holiday (Rosh Hashana). Nuts are to be avoided during this celebration because the Hebrew word for “nut” numerically equals the same value as the word for “sin”. According to Hebrew Gematria, the following numerical values have been allocated to each Hebrew letter.
